Our orthopedic veterinary specialty team includes four board certified veterinary surgeons with over 50 years of combined experience, seven certified veterinary technicians as well as a dedicated, pet loving staff. Michael Bauer, DVM

After receiving his DVM from Auburn University in 1982, Dr. Michael Bauer completed 4 years of advanced training in small animal surgery. He taught surgery for 10 years, primarily at Purdue University and Colorado State University, before establishing his Colorado Springs surgical practice in 1996.

Dr. Bauer and his associates have focused their work on small animal orthopedics, specifically arthroscopy, total hip replacement and ACL repair including TPLO and TTA. They have had the opportunity to perform many thousands of orthopedic and spinal procedures.

He loves working with animals, mountain biking, windsurfing and playing guitar.

Todd Riecks, DVM

Dr. Riecks who was born and raised in Ohio, received his DVM from The Ohio State University. He went on to complete his internship and residency at Med Vet Associates, Ltd. in Columbus, Ohio.

He’s thrilled to be living in colorful Colorado where he enjoys snowboarding, backpacking, mountain biking, and photography. He has two daughters, Jesse and Jaime, and a Border terrier named ‘Manitou’.

Scot Swainson, DVM

Upon graduation from Colorado State University in 1994, Dr. Swainson completed a one-year general internship in Los Angeles, California followed by a one-year surgical internship in Winter Park, Florida. Dr. Swainson then completed a 3-year residency in small animal surgery at Iowa State University. Following residency Dr. Swainson was a clinical instructor at the University of Wisconsin.

Dr. Swainson obtained credentials as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2000.

Dr. Swainson then entered private practice and has worked in Boston, MA, Loveland CO, Albuquerque, NM and has settled himself and family here in Colorado Springs, CO.

Dr. Swainson was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming and is an active outdoor enthusiast.

Nate Miller, DVM

Dr. Nate MillerDr. Miller grew up in Evergreen, Colorado. He received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and returned to Colorado, graduating from Colorado State University Veterinary School. He was intern of the year at North Carolina State University and completed his surgical residency at the University of Georgia in 2002. He became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2004.

Dr. Miller has practiced in Denver, CO and Santa Cruz, CA. He is pleased to join the team at Colorado Canine Orthopedics.

Dr. Miller has extensive experience in arthroscopy and has been an instructor in courses nationally. Other professional interests include joint replacement and correction of limb deformities

Dr. Miller’s family consists of his wife Christine, daughter Jessie, and two dogs – Olivia (a Jack Russel), and Fred (a Welsh Corgi). He enjoys cycling, fishing, wakeboarding and spending time with his family.
