Canine Neurosurgery for Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD)

Dachsund with Canine Intervertebral Disc DiseaseCanine neurosugery involves surgery of a dog's brain, spine or individual nerves. At Colorado Canine Orthopedics our expertise involves surgery of spine, particularly for dogs who have Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD).

Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) involves degeneration of the intervertebral discs that often leads to disc herniation resulting in spinal cord or spinal nerve compression. The syndrome can affect all breeds but toy breed dogs such as Dachshunds and Pekingese are more commonly affected. Clinical signs range from intermittent pain to complete paralysis.

Before getting into the details of the disease a brief anatomy review is needed.
